You may have noticed I like to write about my personal life. Some of the best stories come from lived experience. So I thought I would give my battered journal a break and start making daily blog posts in my publication, TMI: Too Much Information.

I’ve been trying to publish multiple stories every day this month. Most days, I’ve been able to write two stories. Two days, I even published three. But, I didn’t manage to do it every day. I’ve been trying to have at least one day a week that I stay off the computer and spend time with my wife and daughter.

It’s worked out well so far.

This Saturday we went to the beach. My daughter finally got a chance to swim in the ocean and even got her first sunburn. Because it was the first trip to the beach of the season and it was last-minute, we failed to prepare. We left the sunscreen in the bathroom at home.

Our Kubo and one of the fresh coconuts.

We all had a good time. We ate Talaba (steamed oysters) and drank warm Buko juice (coconut) right from the shell. The ocean water is not as clear where we went as some of the places we’ve been, but it was cool, and the kids had fun. My daughter got to spend the day splashing around with her cousins, so she had a good time.

The fun was short-lived because when we got back, our financial problems were waiting for us. Every month it seems like we get further and further behind. And with my wife’s due date in August, there are huge reasons why we need to save some money.

I’ve been trying to work as hard as I can on Medium and give it a chance to earn money for me. But it’s hard to be patient when you need the money so bad.

On Sunday I submitted a few pieces to online magazines that pay per piece and I am hoping to hear back from them soon. I also sent an email to a news website that was looking for someone to write articles about the Philippines. I don’t have any experience with journalism, but I thought I would ask about the opportunity anyway.

I’d like to spend my time writing stories for Medium and building my personal brand…
