When curation started to be a thing on Medium, it seems that almost all of my stories were being chosen to be promoted. I had at least an 80% curation rate. But, recently, none of my stories have been chosen.
Five of my last six stories have not been curated.
I am wondering if I am doing something wrong?
I follow the guidelines
I’ve read the Medium curation guidelines over and over.
Medium's Curation Guidelines: Everything Writers Need to Know

I’m doing everything they suggest, but nothing is working. Are my stories just terrible? Everybody is reading and clapping, but has my work gotten so bad that it’s not worth being promoted?
No, I don’t think so. Let’s check again.
Are my stories insightful, considered, and interesting?
Yes, I think they are. I’ve recently changed my writing process, and I think I put more work now than I did before to make sure I am producing great work.
A New Way to Write Stories for Medium
My new process is much better than the old
The feedback from other writers on Medium had been overwhelmingly positive, so I think my work is better than when almost every other story was being curated. I’ve really turned up the dial on the quality, and I think it shows in the pieces that I publish now
Are my headlines clear and descriptive?
I think so, but you be the judge. These are the five recent stories that haven’t been curated:
Oh No — He’s Writing About Medium Again!
Yes, I write about it when I can’t call myself successful yet
You be the judge and jury. What do you think? I think they accurately depict what the story is about without resorting to clickbait.
Am I using a featured image?
Yes, I always use a feature image and all images that I do use meet all of the attribution guidelines. There was a case one time that I didn’t attribute images I owned and there was a problem getting the story published in a publication. I’ve learned my lesson, so I make sure I use all images properly.
Am I citing and linking properly?
All facts where I use an outside source are cited, and any references I make are linked to the correct website. I have been blogging for a long time, and I always make sure nothing I do remotely looks like plagiarism.
Does my profile meet standards?
I recently changed my profile so the picture was clearer and the bio described my better. I wonder if it’s something I did with my profile?
Can you all look at it and tell me if you think it meets the requirements?
Do I proofread?
When I changed my writing process, I also changed how much time I spend editing and proofreading my stories before I hit publish. I’ve been over and over my stories and haven’t found any mistakes.
Have you all noticed if I tend to make a lot of mistakes?
Things I don’t do
I don’t post ads. I don’t request claps or donations. I don’t ask to add people to my email list. I don’t violate copyrights, and I don’t break any content rules. Finally, I don’t serialize my stories.
What am I doing wrong?
Did the gods of Medium conspire to keep me out, or is it just a coincidence? I can’t see anything blatant I am doing wrong so I must just have been looked over for some other reason.
I don’t know about you all, but I overthink the hell out of these things, and right now my brain is on overdrive. This comment is from a guy who obsessively checks his stats constantly to see how many more fans I got in the last five minutes.
Maybe I just need to calm the hell down and just write and publish. These things always work themselves out. I know they do.
But I can’t shake the feeling that I am doing something wrong.
