“Bringing Sexy Back” on YouTube

My faceless YouTube channel is coming back to life

A year ago, I was busy working full-time on my YouTube channel, Chill & Flow. No, I wasn’t vlogging, but I offered different types of music set to video and images — relaxing, metal, jazz, R&B, Rap, and study music. In a short time, after posting a video each day for several months, I had over 60 videos published.

But whether I got tired of doing all that work for no reason when my views and subscribers never increased, or my ADD got the best of me and I was off jumping to yet another project, I stopped working on it. I left the channel to die and didn’t touch it for a year.

The other day I was scrolling through YouTube and decided to check on my channel. The funny thing was, I hadn’t gained any subscribers, but I had gotten a lot of views on a few of the videos. One was this gem, which I am incredibly proud of because the music is awesome, and I have personally made love while this was playing several times:

You know you want to try it.

I had another “making love” video that did well too. I took a stroll down memory lane and listened to some of the music, and I forgot how much I missed listening to all that great music as I was building my videos. Most of the music came from Epidemic Sound, and if you know the platform you know all the great music they have to offer.

One of the other videos I was proud of was this one, which five minutes in will have your ears bleeding:

Warning: Turning the volume up!

That video will get you head-banging and remembering those ear-ringing concerts and mosh pits from your youth (if you are a gen Xer like me or even a millennial).

After my stroll down memory lane, I decided that all those videos had a lot of value and I wanted to see if I could build the channel up to monetize it (now would be the time to subscribe if you haven’t already). I think to monetize, you must have 1000 subscribers and like 1000 hours of viewing time.

I am already spending a few hours a day writing, I could spend another hour or two each day to create some more videos because I know the YouTube algorithm likes fresh content. It really doesn’t take long to pick the music and put together a video each day.

I think I will buy one of those fancy Bluetooth speakers so when I review all the music that goes in the videos, I can enjoy at the same time. The sound coming from my laptop speakers just doesn’t do the songs justice.

I really missed making videos because it’s so different from writing. Writing is still my passion, but it’s fun to use different muscles to create and stretch beyond what you would normally do.

I’ve had a lot of different channels on YouTube, but Chill & Flow has definitely been the most fun and rewarding. It's nice because I really don’t want to put my face in a video. I don’t think I am quite as interesting as some of those creators that have massive followings.

I’d rather do stuff like this:

What do you think is more fun?
